Day 27 of the Olympic Torch relay

Sixteen-year-old Raquel Matos was the first Torchbearer of the day, starting the journey at the Edinburgh Live Site in Festival Square. Raquel was nominated for her achievements in swimming and for being an excellent role model as a potential Olympian of the future.

Olympic gold medalist Allan Welwilt hen carried the Flame in Selkirk. He won 100m at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games.

The Flame also travelled by horseback in Selkirk carried by Torchbearer Sean Walls, who set up Sight Aid International which offers free eye tests and glasses to people in Kenya.

130 inspirational Torchbearers carried the Flame through the following communities: Edinburgh, Duddingston, Musselburgh, Dalkeith, Lasswade, Loanhead, Bilston, Milton Bridge, Penicuik, Eddleston, Peebles, Innerleithen, Walkerburn, Selkirk, Galashiels, Earlston, Gordon, Greenlaw, Duns, Chirnside, Foulden, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Bamburgh and Alnwick.

The evening celebration was held at Alnwick Castle Pastures, in front of the Medieval Castle of Alnwick which featured in the Harry Potter movies.

Performers included the Little Comets and dance act Twist and Pulse. Local acts staged by Northumberland County Council also provided some entertainment.

Towards the end of the show, the last Torchbearer of the day lit a celebration cauldron on stage, giving the audience a chance to see the Flame.
