On Day 31 Love burns brightly on the Olympic Torch Relay.
As the Olympic Torch Relay travelled from Middlesborough to Hull, cheered along its way by thousands of spectators, the day was made even more special for one member of the crowd, who was proposed to by one of the torch bearers.
The Olympic Torch has Travelled through more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the UK and today it travelled from Middlesbrough to Hull.
After a start just before 7.30am the Relay made its way down the North East coast before arriving in Hull almost 12 hours and 110 miles later.
Just after midday Lloyds TSB selected Torchbearer Jamie Green from Malton proudly carried the Torch. Jamie is the Children’s Patron of young people’s mobility charity Whizz-Kidz – whose aim is to help give disabled children the chance to lead a more independent life.
According to his Torchbearer nomination, Jamie has ‘been an incredible ambassador for over five years, as well as chairing the Whizz Kidz board (a group of 12 young people representing the regions) he has worked tirelessly to champion and represent the interests of some 700 young disabled people – leading campaigns, persuading MPs, doing media interviews and making inspirational talks at Downing Street and The Houses of Parliament’.
The evening celebration took place in West Park, Hull, at 7.20pm. Emerging talented athlete Emily Hickman proudly carried the Flame. From Brigg in North Linconshire, Emily excels at Judo and as part of the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes programme receives help during one of the toughest stages of her sporting career.
Working in partnership with SportsAid since 2008, Lloyds TSB has provided funding and recognition to more than 1,000 Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls on their journey to London 2012 and beyond.
