Day 35: Olympic Flame visits Kendal Castle and the Blackpool Tower Ballroom at the halfway point of the Torch Relay

The Flame was carried by 139 Torchbearers, including Strictly Come Dancing champions Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani, from Kendal to Blackpool.

The Olympic Flame travelled 60.25 miles through 12 communities on Friday before current Strictly Come Dancing champions Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani light a celebration cauldron in the evening.

The first Torchbearer of the day was Michael Liptrot, from Kendal, who started with the Flame at Kendal Castle. Michael was nominated for his work at Kendal Judo Club ensuring that others can reach their potential.

Mid-morning, the Torch Relay continued to the Eric Morecambe Statue in Morecambe, before the Flame travelled on the Blackpool tramway in the afternoon. Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani then carried the Flame into the ballroom of the Blackpool Tower – the location of their Strictly Come Dancing victory in December last year – after it has travelled in a lantern to the top of the Tower.

The Relay travelled through the following communities on Friday: Kendal, Milnthorpe, Carnforth, Bolton-le-Sands, Hest Bank, Morecambe, Lancaster, Garstang, St Michael’s on Wyre, Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Blackpool.
