Students from Get Set network schools across the UK have been given roles as flagbearers and player escorts during the Olympic Football Tournament this summer.
The students have been selected from twenty Four primary schools through the reward and recognition programme of Get Set, the official London 2012 education programme.
The flagbearers will carry out the national flags of the teams that are playing onto the pitch at the beginning of a match whilst player escorts will walk onto the pitch with the captains at the beginning of a match, as well as leading the team and match officials on and off of the pitch.
London 2012 Organising Committee Chair Seb Coe said: ‘There are already so many exciting ways schools are getting involved and playing their part in London 2012.
'This is another great opportunity run through Get Set which will show London 2012’s commitment to put young people at the heart of the Games.’
The Olympic Football Tournament will kick off the London 2012 Games on 25th July and will see fifty eight matches take place across 6 major grounds in the UK including Hamden Park in Scotland and the Millennium Stadium in Wales.
