The giant Olympic Rings have been unveiled in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Olympic ring structure is 10 metres in length by 5 metres in height and weighs three tonnes.
They will now provide a stunning backdrop for Glasgow’s celebrations when the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay visits Glasgow on the 8th & 9th of June, and when Hampden Park hosts the eight Olympic Football matches being Hosted in Scotland during July & August.
Children from Glasgow Get Set schools helped launch the Rings along with the Leader of Glasgow City Council, Mayor Gordon Matheson, who said: 'It is an historic day for Glasgow to be unveiling not just the first set of Olympic Rings in Scotland, but also the largest stainless steel Rings in the UK, which will act as a spectacular and iconic welcome to the city for visitors and Games spectators alike.'
The school children & Mayor were joined at the unveiling by Sir Craig Reedie, the former Chairman of the British Olympic Association and a representative of both the International Olympic Committee and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Olympic Rings installation is part of a programme of city dressing throughout Glasgow which will include around 6,000 metres of bunting and almost 700 bespoke banners and flags which will be going up in more than 20 streets throughout the city.
