Live Sites across the UK will show special films and entertain thousands of people on Thursday 21st June to mark the opening of the London 2012.
An exciting programme of films will run throughout the day on the permanent big screens at locations around the UK including Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester.
The screens will show films from events in the London 2012 Festival, including the Tracey Emin Review Show interview, excerpts from previous BBC Proms and films made by young people through the Cultural Olympiad’s Film Nation:Shorts programme.
The Live Sites around the UK will also show a film about the life-sized inflatable replica of Stonehenge by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller that will pop up in places around the UK throughout the London 2012 Festival.
There will also be screenings for children and families of the Guinness world record-breaking and BAFTA-winning film The Itch of the Golden Nit
The big day on the big screens will culminate with a live BBC broadcast of The Big Concert from Stirling at 7.30pm with Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.
London 2012 Festival Director Ruth Mackenzie said: ‘I am thrilled that in addition to 10 million free opportunities to take part in the London 2012 Festival, on 21 June, all the London 2012 Live Sites will give a taste of some of the great artists in the Festival, including a live transmission of the opening concert from Stirling, Scotland.’
The 12-week London 2012 Festival will bring together leading artists from across the world. More than 25,000 artists from all 204 competing Olympic nations will perform, with 12,000 events being held at 900 venues across the UK.
