On Day 58: The Olympic Flame visited Guernsey and Jersey
The Olympic Flame payed a visit to the beautiful Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey.
The Flame travelled by plane from Southampton Airport to Guernsey.
The first Torchbearer in Guernsey was Roger Allsopp, 71, who carried the Flame on the South Esplanade in St Peter Port.
Roger was nominated for his Channel swim, which put him in the record books as the oldest person to have completed the crossing.
From Guernsey the Flame flew to Jersey.
The first Torchbearer in St Helier will be Richard Collinson, 69, who was nominated for dedicating his life to sport and providing football coaching for young people.
Sal Minty-Gravett, 55, also carried the Flame in Jersey.
Sally was selected for swimming the English Channel on four occasions in four decades and is planning an unprecedented 82-mile double circumnavigation of Jersey Island later this year.
At the end of the day the Flame returned to Southampton airport and travelled by ferry from Gosport to the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth.
Twelve-year-old Mazie Watson carried the Flame from the jetty at the Historic Dockyard to HMS Victory, the flagship used by Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar.
The day ended with an Evening Celebration on Southsea Common. The line-up included music from dance troupe Rizzle Kicks and a number of local performers.
The Flame covered a total distance of 48.54 miles on its journey from Southampton to Portsmouth.
The Flame was carried through the following communities: Southampton, Guernsey, Jersey, Fareham, Bridgemary, Gosport and Portsmouth.
