Olympic Torch Relay review of Day 56: The Olympic Flame visits Chesil Beach and Durdle Door as it travelled through Dorset

The Olympic Flame travelled through the spectacular scenery of Dorset as it journeyed from Portland Bill to Bournemouth.

The 76-mile rout took in scenic locations along the Jurassic Coast, including Portland Bill, the natural rock arch Durdle Door and the vast shingle expanse of Chesil Beach.

The first Torchbearer of the day was Tom Mules, 16, from Weymouth, who ran with the Flame at Pulpit Rock, Portland Bill.

He was nominated as a Torchbearer for his commitment to competing in biathlons & triathlons and for his work as a young ambassador for sport and for children with disabilities.

Vickie Mattock, 39, from Gloucester carried the Flame to the vantage point overlooking Chesil Beach. She was selected through the Lloyds TSB campaign for her work with local charities.

The evening celebration in Bournemouth included music from dance troupe Wretch 32, and an electric quintet from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

The Flame was carried through 24 communities: Portland Bill, Southwell, Weston, Easton, Portland, Fortuneswell, Weymouth, Preston, Osmington, Winfrith Newburgh, Wool, Corfe Castle, Swanage, Stoborough, Wareham, Sandford, Lytchett Minster, Upton, Hamworthy, Poole, Ashley Cross, Branksome, Wallisdown and Bournemouth.
