Olympic torch relay review of day 66

On Day 66 the Olympic Flame visited Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and Wimbledon.

On Day 66 of the Olympic Torch Relay, the Flame was carried by 187 Torchbearers as it travelled 37 miles from Lewisham to Wandsworth.

Highlights included a visit to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, where former England footballer and animal lover Michael Owen carried the Flame.

Michael helped celebrate the dedication of the staff and volunteers who have rescued, reunited and rehomed over 3.1 million dogs and cats since the centre was established in 1860.

Later in the day, Tennis ace and British number one Andy Murray carried the Flame on to Centre Court at the Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

US star Venus Williams also carried the Flame at Wimbledon.

At 9pm in the evening, the Flame passed through the set of one of the UK's favourite soap’s as EastEnders star Billy Mitchell carried the Flame in a live episode on TV.

Other Torchbearers included Doreen Lawrence, 59, who founded the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, an education charity committed to helping disadvantaged young people, in memory of her son Stephen.

Internationally acclaimed actor Sir Patrick Stewart, known for his stage work and leading contemporary film roles, also ran with the Flame.

The evening celebration took place on Tooting Bec Common, where the final Torchbearer of the day Tim Henman lit the cauldron.

Entertainment was provided by band Rizzle Kicks, and also featured a street performance from dance act Twist and Pulse.
