Torch relay update - Day 50: Olympic Flame visits Lee Valley White Water Centre on its journey to Cambridge

British Chef Jamie Oliver and Olympian Athlete Iwan Thomas were amongst 117 inspirational Torchbearers carrying the Olympic Flame on day 50.

On Saturday 7 July, the Olympic Flame travelled 145 miles through 14 communities on its journey from Chelmsford to Cambridge.

20-year-old Zachary Franklin, from Nottingham carried the Flame at Lee Valley White Water Centre, the venue for Canoe Slalom.

Zachary was nominated for his commitment & dedication to the sport of canoeing and inspiring his peers.

Zachary is also currently completing his coaching qualification to help train others.

Jeremy Stopher, 49, from Braintree, carried the torch in Chelmsford.
He has run 10 marathons, raising tens of thousands of pounds for a number of good causes.

Jamie Oliver carried the Flame in Newport, Essex.
He was nominated for inspiring people to spend more time enjoying being in the kitchen and eating more healthily and for even getting them to start growing their own food.

Welsh Olympian Athlete Iwan Thomas, the current 400m record holder, was the last Torchbearer of the day.
He lit the cauldron on the stage at the Evening Celebration which took place at Parker’s Piece, Cambridge as part of the Big Weekend festivities.

On Day 50, the Flame was carried through the following communities: Chelmsford, Harlow, Waltham Abbey, Waltham Cross, Hertford, Ware, Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted Mountfichet, Newport, Saffron Walden, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Cambridge.
