Day 23 - Torch Relay update

The day began at St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, the largest town in Orkney. The Flame was carried by Inga Kemp, 22, from Orkney. Inga was nominated for her work in netball and hockey youth development coaching. Inga was followed by 19 other inspirational Torchbearers.

From Orkney the Flame travelled to Shetland where it was started on its journey through Lerwick carried by John Nicolson, 74, from Scalloway. John was nominated for the instrumental role that he played in the provision of the sport and community facilities that Shetland currently benefit from.

John was followed by 19 more inspirational Torchbearers as the Flame visited the ‘Welcome to Shetland’ gate, and ‘The Knab Lookout’, before travelling across Clickimin Loch in a boat, before arriving at a Community Festival in Lerwick whilst being carried by Faye Richardson, 22, from Shetland. Faye was nominated for her dedication to athletics and her work as a local lifeguard.

After visiting the Orkney and Shetland islands, the Flame visited John O’Groats on its way to Stornoway.
