Paralympics update:

Upcoming sporting action:

The Paralympic Games are here – and the gold rush starts from Day 1.

The first gold medal of the Games is due to be awarded today in women's R2-10m Air Rifle Standing-SH1 at The Royal Artillery Barracks.

A number of sports get underway at ExCeL, where there are medals up for grabs immediately in Judo and Powerlifting.

On the Olympic Park, action gets underway at the Velodrome while the Aquatics Centre plays host to medal events for the next 10 days.

On Friday, Andre Brasil competes in the Men's 50m Swimming Freestyle-S10 – the first in a number of events for the Brazilian who won four golds at Beijing 2008.

On Saturday in the Olympic Stadium, Ireland's Jason Smyth – the fastest Paralympian on the planet – competes in the Men's 100m-T13.
